Wrexham’s Victorian Christmas Market concluded earlier this month after a successful four-day run from 28th November to 1st December, delighting visitors and marking the start of the festive season. This year’s market introduced charming, wooden cabins and an extended schedule, both of which proved to be positive changes.

The extended four-day format allowed more people to visit and enjoy the event. Feedback from attendees praised the welcoming atmosphere, from the friendly stallholders to our very own, much-loved Father Christmas, as well as the new wooden cabins, which added a traditional touch to the event. St Giles Church was beautifully illuminated and set against a backdrop of ‘snow’, providing a magical centrepiece for the festivities.

The Victorian Christmas Market also coincided with the official launch of the refurbished Butchers’ and General Markets, celebrating the much-needed restoration of two Grade II listed buildings that have long been cornerstones within Wrexham’s community. Visitors were welcomed into the bright, airy, and warm markets by Wrexham Mayor Cllr Beryl Blackmore and Mr. Mohammed Anwar, one of Wrexham’s longest-standing traders with over 50 years of service. Mr. Anwar rang the restored Butchers’ Market bell, a historic feature once used to signal the start and end of each trading day.

The reopening has already sparked significant interest, with a growing number of traders expressing their enthusiasm for securing a stall in the refurbished markets. This renewed interest highlights the vital role these markets continue to play in supporting local businesses and creating vibrant community spaces.

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, Tourism & Business, who attended the festivities, said: “This year’s Victorian Christmas Market has been an incredible success. “Extending the event to four days allowed us to welcome even more visitors into the City Centre, and the atmosphere in the newly refurbished Butchers’ and General Markets was incredible. “It’s heart-warming to see Wrexham’s market offer growing once again, bringing the community together, supporting local traders and businesses, and driving footfall into the heart of the city. “I would also like to thank the City Centre and Events teams for their dedication and hard work in making the reopening of the markets and the Victorian Christmas Market such a resounding success.”

As Wrexham Markets look towards the future, anyone interested in becoming part of this exciting new chapter is encouraged to get in touch and explore trading opportunities.
