Groundwork North Wales is six months into its ambitious project to restore, preserve, and promote the built and natural heritage of the Clywedog Valley, supported by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. With £246,530 awarded from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and £22,600 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, alongside support from partner organisations.
The Clywedog Valley Partnership, led by Groundwork North Wales, has been engaging with the community to develop detailed plans that will underpin a full National Lottery grant application. These plans aim to enhance the valley’s rich heritage, improving accessibility and wildlife habitats while creating opportunities for cultural exploration and community engagement.
In the past six months, the project team has delivered a host of activities and events, gathering valuable feedback from residents, visitors, and local organisations. From family-friendly heritage trails to hands-on volunteering days, these efforts have strengthened connections to the valley’s history and natural beauty.
As the team moves closer to finalising plans, the partnership continues to seek input from the community and the wider public to ensure the project reflects local priorities and aspirations. An online survey remains open, and your insights will help shape the future of the Clywedog Valley.

The support and enthusiasm we’ve received so far have been incredible, but there’s still time for more voices to be heard. We encourage everyone who cares about this special place to complete the survey.”
The project’s vision is to transform the valley into a thriving, resilient, and inclusive cultural attraction and community resource. From accessible heritage trails to diverse events, the aim is to create a space that appeals to people of all ages and interests, both locally and beyond.
