Wrexham Council is stepping up its commitment to cleaner, greener and better maintained estates with a series of improvements designed to enhance local neighbourhoods and support community wellbeing.
Wrexham Council’s Housing Department has six Estate Offices around the Borough, which focus on managing tenancies and estate management.
The Housing Department often works in collaboration with the Environment Department to assess areas for improvement. Every year, the estate office holds multiple ‘environmental action days’ across the Borough. These events aim to tidy up housing-owned pathways, communal spaces and offer contract holders (tenants) an opportunity to use a skip to dispose of unwanted items.
Our Estate Teams actively spend time on the estates, continuously assessing the areas they pass during various types of visits and walk-a-bouts with Local Members.
The Estate Offices have been heavily involved in checking their areas and have been collaborating with our colleagues in the Environment Department to keep our agreement for grass cutting and general maintenance up to date.
As set out in the Housing Business Plan, a priority for the next financial year is to improve the quality of estate environments.
To do so, there is a proposal to recruit 4 extra estate maintenance operatives to be pro-active in estate management. The aim of these roles will be to improve the quality of estate environments, contribute to greener streets, carry out estate inspections, and maintain communal areas.
These job roles will be advertised on the Council’s Job Page.
These improvements will conform to the Council’s priorities as well as aligning with the Council’s climate commitments.
Wrexham Council recognise the importance of a clean, attractive and sustainable environment on the well-being of communities.
To help shape future improvements, a Housing Estate Survey has been launched for Council Contract Holders (Council tenants). This gives them the opportunity to share their views and highlight the areas that matter most to them, ensuring that upcoming work is focused where it is needed. The survey is open until the end of March and will play a key role in guiding priorities for estate improvements.
To also help with maintaining tidy and welcoming neighbourhoods, Housing works in partnership with North Wales Police and the Council’s Enforcement Team to address any anti‑social behaviour affecting the estates.
Cllr David A Bithell Lead Member for Housing and Climate Change said, “The recruitment of four additional estate operatives is the start of our commitment to improving the appearance and cleanliness of our estates. Cleaner, greener, and safer estates are our priorities, and we welcome feedback from our tenants on how we can improve local areas.”
