Wrecswyl, a brand-new Welsh-language music and cultural festival, will take place for the first time at Tŷ Pawb Wrexham on 7 November.
The event, organised by a partnership of local organisations, will bring together live music, literature, family fun activities and opportunities for Welsh learners in a vibrant celebration of the Welsh language and Welsh culture in the city.
Stephen Jones, WCBC’s Welsh Language Strategic Officer stated “We’re looking foward to welcoming everyone to Wrecswyl for the first time with the aim to build on the National Eisteddfod’s legacy, a place where people can come together to use, hear and enjoy Cymraeg in a welcoming setting – whether they are fluent Welsh speakers, learners, or people keen to experience local Welsh-language culture.”
Councillor Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Strategic Planning and Public Protection said: – “It’s fantastic to see the inaugural Wrecswyl taking place at Ty Pawb on 7 November and I would encourage anyone who is interested in Welsh Language cultural events, regardless of their ability in speaking the language to come along and enjoy the best of what the day has to offer.
“Welsh Language and Culture are an important part of our UK City of Culture bid and this is an exciting opportunity to be part of activities in support of the bid.”
During the day, the Pentref Plant, coordinated by Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, will offer creative, family-friendly activities that introduce Welsh in a fun way. Coleg Cambria will host sessions for learners, giving people the opportunity to practise their Welsh and build confidence and Wrexham University will also organise literary sessions as part of the wider cultural programme. Choirs from across the area will perform throughout the day, helping to create a warm community atmosphere in the heart of the city.
To close the festival a series of performances curated by FOCUS Wales will showcase some of the most exciting artists from Wrexham and Wales, including Andy Hickie, Tara Bandito, Hudol, Morgan Elwy a’r Band, Papur Wal and Band Pres Llareggub.
