Wrexham Council have now awarded the demolition contract to Garvey Demolition. The demolition of Springfield is scheduled to commence in the Autumn, to make way for one of the biggest social housing redevelopments that the Council have planned in recent years.
All Springfield contract holders have been successfully rehoused in suitable homes across the County Borough ahead of the redevelopment.
The proposals feature 58 new homes which will contain a variety of property types designed to meet the housing needs identified on the housing waiting list.
The initial public consultation has now been completed, and all comments have been considered as part of the further plans.
The Cunliffe Centre will not be demolished during this phase of the project.
The Council will liaise with the Cunliffe Centre and neighbouring residents in advance of any demolition works to ensure they are kept informed.
The demolition forms the part of the first phase of the redevelopment.
Lead Member for Housing, Councillor Terry Evans said, “The demolition will mark an important step forward in the redevelopment, paving the way for new homes designed to meet the housing needs of the Borough. We look forward to seeing the development progress.”
The next steps include seeking planning permission and the necessary approvals and considering the consultation feedback.
Afterwards, the focus will be on appointing a contractor for the build phase and working closely with them to begin construction of the new homes.
