Freedom Leisure, one of the UK’s leading charitable not-for-profit leisure trusts that manages over 120 leisure and cultural venues on behalf of client partners across England and Wales, was thrilled to host The Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE at its National Conference recently, where Wrexham scooped up two prestigious awards!

One of the highlights of the event was the recognition and celebration of colleagues for their outstanding contributions and achievements. Freedom Leisure honoured these teams for their dedication, creativity, and unwavering commitment to serving their communities by providing exceptional customer service, social value and quality leisure and cultural services.

The Wrexham area which includes Waterworld, Gwyn Evans Leisure and Activity Centre, Chirk Leisure and Activity Centre and Queensway Stadium held on to their crown of “Partnership of the Year” and Gwyn Evans also picked up the accolade of “Most Improved Centre” in Wales and the North of England.

Andy Harris, Regional Manager for Wales and the North Said; “We are delighted to receive these awards on behalf of Freedom Leisure. Freedom Leisure’s Wrexham partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council commenced in 2016 and annual participation across our leisure centres in Wrexham has increased by 25%, with over 1 million visits last year. We are immensely proud of the Health and Wellbeing service that we provide, that has been supported through extensive capital investment programmes coupled with a clear focus on our colleagues providing quality customer service.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson who was the keynote speaker and presented the awards said; “A wonderful evening of celebration. The sector is doing such positive things for the lives of people. A great team spirit shone through.”

Ivan Horsfall Turner, CEO at Freedom Leisure said about the event:

“We are immensely proud of the incredible work our colleague teams undertake day in and day out to promote health and wellbeing within the communities we serve. The National Conference provides us with an opportunity to come together, celebrate our successes, and explore new avenues to further enrich the lives of individuals and families and to chart a course for an even brighter future in fostering community health and wellbeing.”
