There’s some good news for bees as Tŷ Mawr has announced it’s improving its overspill car park with environmentally friendly paving that allows water to drain freely and grass and wildflowers to grow through. The area will also be landscaped with wildflower “bee and buterfly banks”.
The park has already achieved national “bee friendly status” and school children have been taking a look to see what bees and butterflies live there already.
The works are taking place following the news that a grant has been awarded by the Green Infrastructure Capital Grant Scheme and contributions made by Cefn Community Council and the Friends of Tŷ Mawr.
The works will begin in the next few days last for about 6 week. There will be some inconvenience during this time but it will be worth it when the works are finished.
You can also get involved in this project by going to a “bee happy” event on August 2 where you can learn more about bees as you follow a trail around the park. There’s also a chance to make your own bug hotel on August 16.
