Guest article: NEWCIS

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

This year the theme is ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ highlighting the invaluable contributions of carers across the UK and ensuring their voices are heard loud and clear.

Whether you are already registered with us or are new to being an unpaid carer, come and speak to us about our tailored support services.

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older. It isn’t someone who volunteers or is employed to provide support.

During the week, we will be out and about in the community raising awareness and sharing information about support for unpaid carers.

NEWCIS is commissioned by Denbighshire County Council, Flintshire County Council and Wrexham County Borough Council and works collaboratively with each local authority to identify as many hidden unpaid carers as possible as well as supporting those already known to us.

NEWCIS can help, our website has lots of information that will help you; go to www.newcis.org.uk“
