Fly Tipping

Post Christmas, residents can find themselves with an excess amount of waste and rubbish. Because of this, some people resort to fly-tipping their rubbish irresponsibly.

If this waste isn’t disposed of correctly, you can risk being issued with a fixed penalty notice or face prosecution.

Here is some key information to help you avoid a very costly mistake.

Unintentional fly-tipping

Many people have innocently made simple errors which have cost them dearly. There are forms of fly-tipping that many people do regularly which could land them with a fine or prosecution. Forms of fly-tipping can include:

  • Leaving unwanted items outside closed charity shops.
  • Leaving household items on a street with a “Free to take” sign.
  • Leaving bags of rubbish beside a public bin.
  • Leaving bags of rubbish beside/outside of their black bin hoping it will be taken by the refuse collectors.

Paying for waste removal

If you pay for a “Man with a van” to come and remove your rubbish, it is best to ensure you protect yourself. If you pay someone to take your waste away and they fly-tip it illegally, you could be held responsible.

Always check they have a waste carrier licence. You can check they have one by searching the Natural Resources Wales website and ask to see it when they come.

It is always important to check they can provide you with appropriate paperwork and guarantee the proper disposal of your rubbish.

Save proof of any transactions between yourself and the person you have booked for the job.

Where to find refuse sites

Across Wrexham, we have multiple household recycling centres where you can dispose your rubbish. Details of all of these and more can be found on our household recycling centres webpage.

Please note that you will need to bring proof that you live in the county borough as these sites are for Wrexham residents only. An example of ID can be a utility bill with your address on it.
