Wrexham’s reputation as a growing, creative city has been recognised once again, with the Wrexham Public Art Trail receiving a commendation at the recent Wrexham Civic Society Awards, celebrating the way the project has brought new colour, artistry and local stories into the heart of the city centre.
The trail, which has introduced a series of bold artworks and murals across the city centre, was praised for the way it champions Wrexham’s cultural identity – from its historic markets and industrial heritage to football, music, the arts, the importance of play, the Welsh language and the city’s evolving cultural diversity.
Coordinated by Wrexham-based artist Liam Stokes-Massey, supported by Wrecsam2029 and funded through Wrexham County Borough Council’s share of UK Shared Prosperity Funding, the project has brought together local creatives, businesses and organisations to reimagine familiar streets and spaces. Phase 2 of the trail is currently in progress, with more artworks and locations being developed.
Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “The Public Art Trail has helped people see Wrexham in a new light. These artworks don’t just brighten up walls: they tell our stories – of graft, passion, creativity and community.”

The Public Art Trail is a key part of Wrexham’s ambition to secure the title of UK City of Culture 2029, showcasing the strength and diversity of the city’s creative scene and the partnerships that are driving it forward.
