This week we caught up with ‘Chwarae’ the Elf – who popped over to tell us all about his recent work on an advent calendar.
He hopes to inspire and get us playing, making and crafting this Christmas.
Question(Q): Hi Chwarae, welcome to the Guildhall. That’s a really interesting name, can you tell us where it came from?
Answer(A): I get asked that a lot. It means to ‘play’ in Welsh. Although my parents were toying with the names Wade or Mac.
Q: And can you tell us about the advent calendar you have been working on?
A: Yep.
Q: ..?
A: …Well, as you can see I’m an elf and we love Christmas. I have been rolling round Wrexham with my crew and they have been taking lots of pictures of me playing festive games and activities. The games and activities are all free or inexpensive to do. I just wanted to share some of my ideas really.
Download the Covid-19 NHS app…and help keep Wrexham safe this autumn.
Q: So where have you been and what have you been up to?
A: Well I don’t want to give too much away but there will be lots of ideas for activities that people can copy or adapt. We will be uploading a picture daily onto the Wrexham Council social media pages, all the way up to Christmas Eve. An advent calendar of sorts.
Q: That’s great, I’ll look forward to that. I know you’re pressed for time so how’s about some quick fire questions?
A: Shoot
Q: Favourite Christmas food?
A: Sprouts. None of that celeb chef stuff though. Put them in a bowl with boiling water. Job done.
Q: Favourite festive films?
A: The Grinch, Elf and Die Hard.
Q: Isn’t Die Hard a bit old for you?
A: I’m 827 years old!
Q: Ah ok. What’s your secret?
A: Early to bed Christmas Eve, like a good elf.
Q: And finally what do you think of the football club takeover?
A: Absolutely massive for the club and the town. As a Wrexham fan I haven’t stopped smiling. We can even count Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield as a fan now. I bet it’s because he saw our Massive floodlights from space!
