Fundraisers and volunteers play a pivotal role in supporting many people across the county borough of Wrexham.

This month, Cllr Beryl Blackmore held an informal event to present her donations from the money raised during her year as Mayor.

Every year, the Mayor of Wrexham holds events to raise money in the name of the Mayor’s Charity. They then nominate a small number of charities to receive the money at the end of their year in office.

Cllr Blackmore nominated Bowel Cancer UK, The Unbeatable Eva Foundation, Dementia Friendly Wrexham and Childhood Eye Cancer Trust. The charities were presented with a donation of approximately £2,000 each.

Representatives from the charities joined Cllr Blackmore at Gresford Methodist Church Caffi group for an informal celebration and to receive their donations.

Cllr Blackmore said: “After such a wonderful year being Mayor, it was a privilege to be able to hand out donations to these four charities. Each one of them is important to me personally and I know the importance of the work they do. I hope that this donation goes some way to enabling them to continue with their vital work.”
