Guest article – NETWORK RAIL
We wanted to let you know that we’ll soon be working between Wrexham Central and Wrexham General to carry out essential track maintenance. This work will involve removing and replacing track and ballast (the rocks that secure the track) to help us maintain a safe and reliable railway.
We have started delivering materials and setting up the site and will continue every Sunday up until the main works on Saturday 22 July. Please note that the continuous work listed below is expected to be noisy and disruptive as staff and machinery will be working 24/7 on the railway.
Date of shifts | Time of shifts |
Sunday 9 July and Sunday 16 July | 12:20am – 8:25am |
Saturday 22 July – Monday 24 July (continuous work with full road and pedestrian closure) | 12:25am – 5:20am |
Saturday 29 July – Monday 31 July (continuous work with full road and pedestrian closure) | 12:25am – 5:20am |
Saturday 5 August – Monday 7 August (continuous work with full road and pedestrian closure) | 12:25am – 5:20am |
Sunday 12 August – Sunday 27 August (each Sunday with full road and pedestrian closure) | 12:20am – 8:25am |
Sunday 3 September – Sunday 17 September (each Sunday) | 12:20am – 8:25am |
We will need to remove the level crossing at Watery Road during the continuous work so that the existing track can be replaced. Signage will be placed at these crossings advising of the temporary closures and a clearly signposted diversionary route for vehicles and pedestrians. Please note that during this time that all vehicles including emergency vehicles will need to use the diversionary route.
Changes to train services
Engineering work is taking place between Shrewsbury and Wrexham General and also between Wrexham and Bidston, closing all lines. Services between Shrewsbury and Chester will be diverted via Crewe. If you are planning to travel by train on these dates, please check before travelling at https://www.journeycheck.com/tfwrail/
The nature of our work often means some noise is unavoidable. We know we’re working near your home and will try to minimise this as much as possible, but we are sorry if we do disturb you.
This work will be split into 2 phases to minimise the disruption to passengers and will be coming back in early 2024 to complete the works. Further details will be shared towards the end of the year.
