A positive meeting to discuss progress at Hafod landfill site took place earlier this month (Friday, March 21).
Senior representatives of Enovert, Rhos Community Council, Ruabon Community Council, Wrexham Council and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) met to discuss the site in Johnstown, which has been at the centre of odour-concerns from local residents.
The partners looked at ways to improve confidence, communications and transparency around the site, and both the local MP and MS have committed to support the work of the group.
Recognising the increase in community concern over the winter months, all parties committed to a series of principles and actions – while noting that community concerns have reduced in recent weeks.
Actions included Enovert’s continued commitment to mitigate any off-site odours and to improve communication with the public – with a focus on developing its relationship with the community.
All partners agreed to help maintain information on NRW’s website, and the community councils underlined their commitment to help keep local residents who can’t access the internet informed.
Wrexham Council, Enovert and NRW also committed to work together to provide information to the community from the recently installed real-time air quality monitors, and to engage with public health partners accordingly.
Progress will be monitored and updates shared with each organisation and the public in the coming months.
