Members of the public can share their views on exciting proposals to transform the area around Wrexham General train station.
The scheme is being delivered by the Wrexham Gateway Partnership, which includes Wrexham Council, Transport for Wales (TfW), Wrexham University and Welsh Government, and the consultation will run until May 12.
The proposals include:
- A new transport hub at the front of the station, providing improved interchange between rail, bus and other modes of travel, as well as enhanced walking, wheeling and cycling routes.
- A new landmark commercial development.
- A new public plaza and landscaping scheme, that will help provide a ‘Welcome to the City of Wrexham’ message to visitors.
- Improved road infrastructure.
Councillor Mark Pritchard, leader of the council, said: “Wrexham’s profile is growing and the city is attracting millions of pounds worth of investment, and this exciting scheme will help us go from strength to strength – creating more joined-up travel options and helping to attract even more commercial investment.
“This consultation is a chance to provide feedback before the plans are finalised and submitted for outline planning approval, so I would encourage everyone to take part and share their views.”
Deputy leader, Councillor David A Bithell, who is also responsible for strategic transport, added: “It’s important that we continue to modernise and improve transport infrastructure in Wrexham.
“We want people to be able to easily interact with different types of transport, but we need to get this right, so it’s important that people share their views with the partnership.”

The Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates, said: “The redevelopment plan for the area around Wrexham General Station provides an exciting opportunity to enhance Wrexham’s reputation as a leading visitor destination, attracting more people to the city, whilst providing better access to rail and road public transport links.”
“We are proud to be a partner in this scheme and very much look forward to hearing people’s views on how these plans are implemented.”
Executive Director for Regional Transport and Integration at TfW, Lee Robinson, said: “As part of our commitment to build an integrated transport network in Wales, we have been working closely with the partnership to develop these plans, with Wrexham General Station at the heart of the proposals.
“We welcome the opportunity to significantly improve links between rail and bus and for better routes for walking, wheeling and cycling in Wrexham, as well as enhancing the overall customer experience at the station.
“Wrexham General is a vital part of the travel network in Wrexham, so it’s important that we get things right and feedback from the community will be essential as we move forward.”
