Guest article – Rhosllannerchrugog Community Council

Residents invited to shape the village’s future – and decide how new funding is spent.

Residents of Rhosllannerchrugog community are invited to a drop-in session at the Stiwt on Thursday 19 March, 2–7pm, to have their say on the future of Wales’s largest village. The event is part of a public consultation on a draft Placemaking Plan, which also includes an online platform at wrexhamplacemaking.info/rhos open until Monday 30 March. Hard copies of the plan are available from Thursday 19 March at Rhos Library, the Community Council office and the Stiwt foyer.

Rhosllannerchrugog Community Council is asking residents, businesses and community groups to share their priorities – including how new capital funding should be spent. The Pride in Place Impact Fund, secured through Wrexham County Borough Council from UK Government, must be used for physical improvements to community spaces, public spaces, or the high street. This is a direct opportunity to influence real decisions about real projects.

The draft plan sets out a vision for Rhos built around four objectives: revitalising Market Street; celebrating the village’s cultural and heritage assets; improving movement and access; and strengthening community leadership. It has been developed following months of local research and community engagement, and is being published in the Stiwt’s centenary year – a particularly significant moment for the village.

Cllr Geoff Foy, chair of the Community Council, explains more: ‘This draft placemaking plan represents a further opportunity for residents to contribute to the future shape of the community, with the prospect of drawing in funding from UK Government to tackle problem areas and enhance the many assets.’

Rhos faces real challenges – particularly on Market Street – but also possesses exceptional assets: the Stiwt, a strong Welsh language and musical tradition, historic chapels, Ponciau Banks Park, thriving sports clubs, well-regarded schools and strong community organisations. The plan focuses on building on these strengths. For more information contact Rhosllannerchrugog Community Council on 01978 840007.
