Wrexham Dementia Community Listening Campaign
SHARE

Residents are being asked to help shape the future of dementia care by taking part in Wrexham’s Community Listening Campaign, and you’ve got until the end of October to have your say and make a difference.

The campaign is part of a wider Wales Listens project being supported by Improvement Cymru and Citizens UK, and there are few different ways you can get involved.

Listening survey

Firstly, you can help by completing the listening survey, which is live until October 31. The survey only takes around 10 minutes to complete and asks for your opinion on a number of things relating to dementia care, including ‘what does good dementia care look like?’ and ‘what should be available to people living with dementia in this community?’.

Improving dementia care is everyone’s business, so please spare the time if you can.

Wellbeing Hub event

Another way to get involved is to book your place to visit the Wellbeing Hub between 10am-3pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

The event brings together people living with dementia, unpaid carers supporting people living with dementia, professionals and support groups/organisers, in one place, to talk about the types of dementia support around Wrexham and discuss what extra support is needed.

Professionals in health and social care, staff from BCUHB, charities and local support groups and organisations will have their own individual stands, so you can discuss your needs and speak about anything specific to dementia that you would like to talk about in person.

There will also be a presentation on dementia and you will get to listen to speakers from various settings.

Tea and coffee will be provided. You can book your place through Eventbrite.

Can’t make October 12?

If you can’t make it to the Wellbeing Hub on October 12 but you’d still like to talk to someone in person, don’t worry because our Person Cantered Planning Coordinator will be visiting a select number of locations across Wrexham to gather feedback in the community.

The confirmed dates so far are:

  • Wednesday September 13, 10am-3pm – Chirk Parish Hall, Chirk LL14 5NA
  • Tuesday September 19, 10am-11.30am – Gresford and District War Memorial Trust Memorial Hall, off High St Gresford, LL12 8PS
  • Thursday September 21, 10am-12pm – Old Carnegie Library (old library room) 17 Park Rd, Coedpoeth, LL11 3TD
  • Friday October 6, 10am-12pm – Rhos Library, Princes Rd, Rhosllanerchrugog, LL14 1AB

Further dates are currently being finalised, but we’ll let you know the details as soon as we have them.

“Your opinion matter – it really, really does”

Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Dementia affects so many people and their families in so many different ways. Talking with others and sharing these experiences helps us to not only to develop the support that already exists, but importantly it lets us see what extra support is needed as well.

“Wrexham’s Community Listening Campaign will help us to find out these important things, and we want to try and gather as much information as we can to help improve dementia care. Your opinion matters, it really, really does. Please take the time to complete the listening survey, and if possible come to the Wellbeing Hub on October 12.”
