Last month, the Department for Transport published their Road Safety Strategy.
Put simply, the document aims to improve road safety in the light of rapidly advancing technology that gathers data on collisions and provide a focus for prevention.
The overall aims are to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on roads in Great Britain by 65% and to reduce the number of children (under 16) killed or seriously injured on roads in Great Britain by 70%, both by 2035.
The Department for Transport would like to hear your thoughts on various changes proposed in the strategy.
They have published a number of consultations and you have a few weeks left to make sure your thoughts are heard.
Cllr Terry Evans, lead member for environmental services, with responsibility for road safety said: “However you choose to travel around the county borough – and the rest of the UK – you should be able to do so safely. These consultations give you the chance to make your opinions known about changes that may affect you, so I would encourage everyone to take part whether you use the roads as a pedestrian, cyclist or motorist.”
Deadline for the following consultation is March 5, 2026:
Developing the UK automated vehicles regulatory framework
Deadline for the following consultations is March 31, 2026:
Introducing mandatory eyesight testing for older drivers
Introducing a minimum learning period for learner drivers
Proposed changes to penalties for motoring offences
