Don’t throw the good stuff away!Cut out the middleman – compost your own garden waste

While the weather hasn’t been perfect, plenty of people will take the opportunity to get their fingers green when the weather behaves.

If clearing away any dead plants or getting the mowing done, remember to dispose of it properly in your garden waste bin.

GET INSTANT NEWS AND INFO FROM WREXHAM COUNCIL WITH MYUPDATES.

All garden waste is collected by Wrexham Council and used for making compost, which can then go on to be used at other gardens.

Don’t throw the good stuff away!

While it might look like unsightly rubbish, garden waste – such as grass, weeds, dead flowers and leaves – is perfect for composting and is rich in everything gardens need to keep healthy.

Last year, Wrexham Council and our waste recycling partners FCC Environment donated more than 420 tonnes of free compost to the public – with more than a further 320 tonnes of composted garden waste used to feed plants in our public grounds and gardens.

Anyone looking to embark on a gardening project this summer can collect free compost from waste collection sites across the county borough

Cllr David A. Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Garden waste is one of the easiest things there is to recycle – all we have to do is compost it, and it’s ready to be used again.

“We’d urge people never to throw it away – there’s no sense in wasting it, and it can do gardens the world of good.”

Cut out the middleman – compost your own garden waste

As well as containing garden waste for collection, members of the public can also order their own compost bins, which can be used to compost garden waste and kitchen vegetable waste.

The composters quickly and easily recycle organic and kitchen waste into rich, nutritious compost that is ideal for retaining moisture in the garden.

Residents can order home composters by phoning 01978 298989 or e-mail contact_us@wrexham.gov.uk
