Food Waste Recycling Caddy

More and more people across Wrexham are starting to recycle their food waste, which was shown in the recent figures we published 🙂

REQUEST A NEW FOOD CADDY HERE!

Since we published these, we’ve also had February’s figures through, which show we recycled 146.2 tonnes of food waste for the month. Compared to February 2018’s figures, this is an increase of around eight tonnes!

We’re very pleased to say that we’re continuing to get requests for new food caddies that will help us improve these figures even further – last week we told you we’d received over 160 requests…this figure has now stretched to over 300!

As a reminder, you can request a new food caddy on our website.

Patience

Such a large number of requests has meant that an element of patience is needed however, as we work our way through all of these.

Cllr. David A. Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, says: “The large volume of requests for new food caddies is great news, and this is going to go a long way to helping us hit our 70 per-cent recycling target.

“The large number of requests does however mean that some people will have to wait for their new one to arrive, as we work our way through all the orders.

“To these people: we really appreciate your patience, and thanks for helping us to recycle even more.”

A reminder of what can be recycled as food waste can be found in this recent blog 🙂

Benefits

Recycling your food waste comes with some great benefits…

Along with the environmental benefits of your waste becoming compost (which you can collect for free, from our Recycling Centres by the way), you’re also freeing up space in your black bin.

Plus, your food caddy gets emptied every week and your general waste doesn’t. If you put your food waste in with your general waste, it’ll sit there for a couple of weeks and get a bit stinky.

Don’t forget about the free caddy liners too…if you need a new roll of caddy liners, just tie an empty one to your food caddy and you’ll get left a new roll on your collection day.

As always, thanks for recycling 🙂

Bin reminders

Remember, you can even subscribe to a bin collection day reminder which you receive via e-mail every week the day before your collection day.
