We know it’s really important for all of us in Wrexham to get our bins emptied and have our recyclables collected on time, and for most of us this happens pretty smoothly.

But there are unfortunately occasions when this isn’t the case, and sometimes it’s because of access issues.

Take a look at the pictures below and you’ll see some of the problems our bin wagons and recycling vehicles have encountered due to parked cars/vans when trying to get to your properties.

Unfortunately, on these occasions, our vehicles weren’t able to get through and this meant that some of our residents missed out on their bin and/or recycling collection.

Remember, our wagons are heavy and wide, so our drivers need to be certain they can safely travel down a street and manoeuvre without causing any damage. If this isn’t the case, they have to go back which leaves some households disappointed…we’re sure you wouldn’t want to be the cause of your entire street not having their bins collected.

You can help us avoid this by taking extra care when parking your vehicles on your collection day. We understand that not everyone has a drive or a garage, and these people rely on street parking.

But if you know that your bins are going to be collected, please have a look at your street to check there’s enough room for our large vehicles to safely perform their duties.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said, “We try our best not to let our residents down, but there are some occasions when our vehicles can’t get to where they need to be, which inevitably leads to missed collections and leaves some people disappointed.

“Therefore, we’re asking our residents to take extra care as to how they park when it’s their collection day, so that these types of situations can be avoided. We collect from 64,000 households each week.”

You can make it easier for our crews by taking these simple steps. If you see a neighbour’s vehicle that could prevent us from accessing your street, please pass the message on to them too…the more people that realise this, the less chance that you’ll all be disappointed on your collection day.

All our vehicles are fitted with in-cab technology – including CCTV – that allows the crews to record any instances where bins have not been presented before 07:30am, or if there are access issues, which prevent our crews from making the collection.

Missed bins can be reported by calling 01978 298989 or online here. Report before 3pm and they’ll be collected within three working days if WCBC are at fault. Missed collections where there’s no fault to the council will be collected on your next scheduled collection day as per your calendar.
