An Improvement Notice has been served on the Red Lion, Marchwiel, after reasonable steps weren’t taken to manage social distancing at the premises.

Police Officers visited the premises at the weekend and found that a Track and Trace system had not been fully implemented.

There was also a lack of table service, as required by regulations. Officers further noted crowding at the bar and other areas of the premises, as well as loud music being played.

The notice was issued by the licensing department who are working with the management of the premises to rectify the issues raised.

The Improvement Notice means they must comply with social distancing measures or further action will be taken to protect the health of public and staff.

Councillor Hugh Jones, Wrexham Council’s Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, says: “This is a clear breach of regulations, with a failure to protect the health of staff and customers, which left officers with no option but to issue an Improvement Notice on the premises.

“We don’t want to serve these notices on businesses, but we won’t hesitate to act when people are being put at risk. We will now be working with the Red Lion in Marchwiel to provide further guidance and help them achieve compliance with regulations. It’s imperative that every establishment follows the rules to help keep Wrexham safe.”
