The deadline to register to vote is midnight on June 18. You can apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote. It takes just five minutes.
On Thursday, July 4, voters will go to the polls to vote for their MP. They are the person who represents your interests and concerns in the House of Commons. MPs consider and can propose new laws as well as raising issues that matter to you. This includes asking government ministers questions about current issues including those which affect local constituents.
Voters have a range of options – they can vote in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote. You can find out more about the different ways to vote on the council’s general election webpage.
