Wrexham Military Veterans FC was founded by Neil Jones in collaboration with the Armed Forces Covenant and Wrexham AFC.

The idea came from a desire to bring veterans from across the Wrexham area together through football — offering opportunities to stay active, connect, and support one another through the power of sport.

Planning for the project began in April 2025, and with Wrexham AFC’s backing through their Armed Forces Community Affiliation, the initiative quickly gathered pace. Since forming, the team has grown to over 48 members, representing the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Royal Air Force.

Several charity fixtures have already been played, including games against Croeshowell FC, Brymbo FC, Llandudno Community FC and North Wales Fire and Rescue- with plenty more games in the pipeline.

In February a team from HMS Dragon (the first ship affiliated with Wrexham since the second world war) will be in Wrexham to play a game. 2026 will also see planned games with Premiership and Championship Veterans Hub teams — including Sunderland, Liverpool, and Newcastle

Recently Armed Forces Champion at Wrexham Council, Cllr Beverly Parry Jones visited the teams new sponsor Sofa Outlet on Wrexham industrial Estate where their new kit was revealed and said, “It’s great to see such a new team develop so quickly with many of our local veterans now benefiting from joining the club.”

Club founder Neil Jones said “I’d like to thank Sofa Outlet for showing their support for our venture and sponsoring our first official kit. “I’d also like to ask any veterans interested in joining to attend our training sessions at the Glyndŵr University astro pitch in Wrexham, we’re there every Thursday 6-7pm. “A warm welcome to all.”
