Background

This event is supported by the Woodland Trust’s Emergency Tree Fund.

It will help towards our goals as part of Wrexham Woodland Pledge (which outlines our commitment to increasing tree canopy cover, and protecting existing woodland across the county borough).

Marchwiel has been highlighted as an area of low canopy cover. The current canopy cover is 14.3% with the overall target for Wrexham at 20%.

A tree planting scheme will take place on land behind Marcella Crescent.

On the day

The event is taking place on Saturday, November 16 from 10am – 4pm (feel free to stay as long as you prefer).

If you are staying over lunchtime please bring your own packed lunch and drinks. Hot drinks and biscuits are provided. There are also no toilets on site so please plan ahead (nearest public toilets are in the Red Lion pub).

Children must be accompanied by an adult, tree planting is suitable for all the family but young children will require adult support when digging holes.

All equipment is provided and gloves are available to use, please wear warm weather-appropriate clothes and wellies or sturdy boots!

We will be on site between 10-4pm but feel free to stay as long as you like.

Meeting point / directions

We will be meeting at the carpark off The Ridgeway, LL13 0SB. The what3words location is
balanced.testy.prevents
(what3words provides a precise location ‘code’ where street addresses aren’t accurate enough).

Travelling from Wrexham Industrial Estate:

  • Take the second exit on roundabout onto Bangor road A525.
  • As you enter Marchwiel, turn right onto the housing estate, street name: The Ridgeway.
  • As the street veers to the left turn down the narrow lane on the right-hand side, into the car park

Travelling from Hightown:

  • Head along A525 Bangor Road and enter Marchwiel village.
  • Turn left onto the Ridgeway.
  • As the street veers to the left turn down the narrow lane on the right-hand side, into the car park

Let us know if you’re interested

If you would like to get in touch to volunteer, or comment about the tree planting scheme, please contact woodlandpledge@wrexham.gov.uk.

Want to help out with future events?

We are calling for businesses, individuals, community groups and schools that would like to help plant trees with Wrexham Council to get in touch, as there will be more opportunities throughout the winter for people to get involved.

Please contact woodlandpledge@wrexham.gov.uk for more details.
