With the summer holidays behind us and the back-to-school season coming to a close, it’s now likely that school is one of the few things on the minds of parents and guardians.

But if you’ve got a child in their final year of primary school, now’s a good time to start thinking about choices as they move to the next stage of their schooling.

Admissions are currently open for all secondary schools in the Wrexham county borough – and if your child turns 11 before August 31, 2020, they will be eligible to apply.

STAY UP TO DATE – SIGN UP TO RECEIVE OUR TOP STORIES.

You can apply easily online via the Wrexham Council website – our admissions portal is now live.

Alternately, paper applications are also available from Contact Wrexham, 16 Lord Street, Wrexham, LL11 1LG and can be returned to School Admissions, Lambpit Street, Wrexham, LL11 1AR.

The admissions phase for secondary schools is open now, and will close on Friday, November 8, 2019 – so be sure to submit your child’s application before the closing date.

The closing date for appeals is Thursday, March 19, 2020.

Our secondary schools will also be holding their open evenings in the coming weeks – so if you’re looking at options, they can be a great opportunity for parents/guardians and children alike to visit schools and get an idea of what they’re like.

Visit our website for links to individual school sites and details of their upcoming open days.

“We want to make it as easy as possible”

Cllr Phil Wynn, Lead Member for Education, said: “We know parents and guardians will start looking at options for their children as they look to go into the next phase of their schooling, and the move from primary education to secondary level can be quite a daunting one – so we want to make sure the process is as smooth and easy as possible.

“As such, I’d encourage anyone keen to start the application process to do so online via our website.”

The admission phase for primary schools will open later this month, from Monday, September 30, 2019 until Friday, November 22, 2019.

We’ll have more details on primary school applications once the admissions phase is open.
