If you’re planning a spring clean but don’t know what to do with your unwanted items, you should know there’s somewhere nearby that would be happy to take them off your hands.
The Nightingale House Hospice Re-use Shop is based in Bryn Lane Recycling Centre, and it’s the perfect place to donate the things you don’t have use for. From books and bikes to children’s toys and homeware, anything that you no longer use, but that could come in handy to someone else, is more than welcome at the Re-use Shop.
The shop is open between 9am and 5pm, seven days a week, but you can make donations at any of the three recycling centres in Wrexham. So, if it’s easier, or closer for you, you can donate at Plas Madoc or Brymbo (The Lodge) instead – just speak to one of the attendants who’ll show you where you can make your donation.
By doing so, you are helping to reduce waste and supporting Nightingale House Hospice, whilst also getting the opportunity to check out any bargains that other residents have donated.
You can buy a host of preloved items that are in great condition, such as sporting equipment, hoovers, prams, furniture, bikes, garden furniture, and televisions at excellent value. All donated items are cleaned and safety tested before being sold, so it’s well worth a visit.
Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for Environment, said: “You can find the Re-use shop within Bryn Lane recycling centre and it’s somewhere you can purchase really good quality items that have been recycled. It always has a wide range of stock at extremely good value and we’d encourage everyone to go there and see for themselves.
“You can donate items with resale value at any of our three recycling centres and they’ll be passed on to the Re-use shop. Whether you’re buying or donating, you’ll be helping a great local cause in Nightingale House Hospice who do truly wonderful work in the local area.”
Anything broken that could be repaired?
If you find something in need of repair, think about taking it along to a repair café. Repair Café Wales and Lend & Mend (in Tŷ Pawb) regularly host them, and it’s a great way to save money, reduce waste, and support sustainability locally.
You can check dates of future events on the Repair Cafe Wales website, or the Repair Cafe Wrecsam Facebook page which you can also follow for updates.
To see when Lend & Mend’s next event is, take a look on their website or visit their Facebook page.
And if you find any stale food in the cupboards…
Don’t forget, any stale foods and out of date foods can all go in your food caddy to be recycled. To see a full list of what can go in your food caddy have a look at our website.
Don’t forget about the recycling centres
Should you come across any unusual items that can’t be recycled at the kerbside, you can bring them to the recycling centres.
All types of batteries, used vapes, carpet, plastic garden furniture, mattresses, paint, scrap metal and weathered timber are just some of the things that can be recycled. See the full list on our website.
Clearing your garden or shed? Watch out for wildlife
If you’re spending some time clearing in your garden area, it’s always a good idea to take care and be mindful of any wildlife. Hedgehogs and other small creatures could be hiding in things like leaves, logs or long grassy areas, so keep an eye out to save causing them any harm or distress.
Lend & Mend – why buy when you can borrow?
At Lend & Mend in Tŷ Pawb, you can access what you need without the hefty price tag. It’s a cost-effective and eco-friendly way to get the items you need, exactly when you need them.
From sewing machines to camping gear, tools to party supplies, there’s plenty of useful items you can hire for a small cost (compared to what you’d pay to buy the item new yourself).
It can be a great solution if you only need to use something for a short amount of time. The borrow and return scheme helps to reduce unnecessary waste and saves you having to pay full price for something you won’t need very often.
