Over 60 local people attended a recent construction recruitment event at Tŷ Pawb and had an opportunity to speak to local companies who are actively recruiting in the construction industry.
Companies taking part included, Wynne Construction, Wrexham County Borough Council, SWG Construction, Henry Williams & Son, Performance Civils Ltd, Gareth Morris Construction and MPH Construction.
There were also local providers on hand to discuss training and Support opportunities within the sector, including DWP, Careers Wales and Adult Community Learning and Groundwork. Glyndwr University brought along drones to highlight the higher level qualifications which they offer and Coleg Cambria carried out practical carpentry and brick laying exercises. There was also a Driving Simulator which proved very popular and allowed individuals to try their dumper truck driving skills.
The event was organised by Wrexham Communities for Work Plus in partnership with CITB.
Community Employment Programme Manager, Jon Sankey said, “It was great to be able to provide an opportunity for local employers to meet with people interested in joining the construction industry and tell them about the huge number of different types of work that is available.
“I hope that the interactive activities gave people a practical idea of what it is like to work on site doing some of the jobs that are so needed at the moment and explain what support we can give them if they wish to pursue a career in the industry. I want to thank all of the exhibitors who came and hope that they found it a useful experience and will join us in the future as we provide similar events.”
Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said, ” Construction industries are actively recruiting in the Wrexham area at the moment and there are some great opportunities for local people. This was a very well attended event and one I hope can be repeated for other industries in the future.”
“I’d like to thank all the staff involved in bringing together so many companies to ensure a successful event.”
