Summer Art Club for ages 11 to 16

Artist-led sessions for young people aged 11 to 16 inspired by our exhibition programme. Try a range of different techniques and materials across 6 artist-led workshops. All participants reicieve an art pack to keep.

24/07, 1pm – 4pm Exploring painting and drawing with artist Mfikela Jean Samuel.Born in Cameroon, and now based in North Wales, Mfikela’s vibrant acrylic paintings draw inspiration from his African heritage and Welsh experiences. In this workshop you’ll learn how to develop your own artwork from a sketch to a finished painting.

31/07, 1pm – 4pm Handmade experimental sketchbooks.Create handmade experimental sketchbooks from found materials to fill with drawings and dreams! In this workshop we will explore folding and papercraft techiques to make our own custom art books.(No session on the 7th August.)

14/08, 1pm – 4pm Talking Scupltures with mixed media textile artist Ali Pickard.Inspired by the Allanol Always exhibition, you’ll create your very own textile and mixed media sculpture. Use your own imagination and experiment with shape and texture while adding found words to create poetry or protest to give your sculpture a voice. What do you want to say? What would you like people to know? What would you like to say about the world?

21/08, 10am – 4pm Double session! Photo collage & abstract self portraiture with multidisipliary artist Jamila Walker & Mark making with natural pigments with environmental artist Tim Pugh

Morning: In this fun and hands-on workshop you’ll explore abstract self portraiture through photography, drawing, casting shadows using a projector and collage. Young people are welcome to bring their own camera phone or cameras.Lunch: Please bring a packed lunch or money to buy from the food court to this session.Afternoon:With the guidance of Environmental Artist Tim Pugh, participating young artists will have the opportunity to experiment with creating their own artworks using natural mark making materials and pigments such as clay, mud and charcoal. All materials will be supplied and if artists can bring in a camera phone, Tim will provide hints and tips on how best to photograph their finished work.

28/08, 1pm – 4pm Become a knitting machine with artist Noemi Santos.Create a ‘knitting machine’ and develop your own knitted artworks inspired by the exhibition. You don’t need to already know how to knit to take part in this workshop.

NB. All dates are Thursdays. There is no session on the 7th August and a double session on the 21st August. Booking for the whole programme is £40, or attend individual sessions for £7.50 each.Funded places are available for young people who are care experienced, young carers, or from households facing financial hardship.
