Guest article by the Canal and River Trust

Saturday 4th May 11am – 2pm – Ebenezer Chapel, Cefn Mawr

Monday 6th May 11am – 2pm Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Trevor Basin Visitor Centre, Trevor Basin

From Cefn Mawr to Chirk this spring, join the Canal and River Trust as we explore and discover what makes the communities and the surrounding environments across the World Heritage Site in Wrexham so unique.

How has this place come to be? What has shaped your history and your identity?

Have you got any memorabilia, artefacts (uniforms, ID badges, tools, photo albums) or stories to share about the industrial history of the area? From sandstone, the Irish navvies to recent history of Monsanto – we’d love you to come along to help us to create the story of your community from 1805 to 2024.

These events are for the whole family, with an array of activities by artists, curators and a photographer taking place in partnership with Tŷ Pawb and Xplore.

Get involved on the day by:

  • Bringing photos, or albums that we can scan, memorabilia, artefacts and your family stories.
  • Exploring your community and connection to the waterways through the lens with a Photography Walk-shop with documentary photographer Oliver Stephen who will teach you some great skills on the day.
  • Create a Community map with Sophia Leadill.
  • Build your communal canal with Xplore!
  • Live Curate your own exhibition with The Dispensary Gallery and Tŷ Pawb.

For more information about the events and activities please visit @TheStreaminthesky on Facebook or Instagram, or email Natasha Borton.

The Bridge that Connects is a World Heritage Site Art Project by the Canal & River Trust which has been funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with Wrexham County Borough Council.
