Our Events Team has scooped a major regional award for their Underneath the Arches event held earlier this year.

The event was awarded the Best Visitor Event (for under 7.5k people) at the North Wales Tourism Awards held at the Venue Cymru recently. The team will now go forward to the All Wales final.

They were up against over 100 other nominations and they faced tough competition in the top 4 which included, the Good Life Festival, Eirias Park Rugby and the Anglesey Circuit.

Underneath the Arches has gone from strength to strength since it began in 2011. It is a celebration of music and song with a spectacular firework finale which lights up Thomas Telford’s magnificent Pontcysyllte Aqueduct a fitting tribute to Wrexham’s World Heritage Site and an eagerly anticipated event for people across Wrexham and the hundreds that travel from other parts of the UK to visit.

“The team find it very worthwhile”

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “This was a terrific result and great for the team having staged it for the 6th year this summer! It’s a lot of hard working bringing this, and the many other events the team is involved with, together but I know they find it very worthwhile and worth all the effort as so many people get to enjoy this amazing event.”

Wrexham based FOCUS Wales also won best use of digital for their newly developed app for the festival in 2017 so we also send our congratulations to them. You can view our article about the success of FOCUS Wales here:
