Town centre improvements – what’s on the way?

We’ve already carried out a number of works to the town centre streetscape.

These include £250,000 worth of improvements to Wrexham Bus Station, including refurbished toilets; new litter bins; improved information screens; a planned disabled parking area and resurfacing of the highway immediately outside the station.

We’ve also carried out major Phase 1 works to Regent Street, Hope Street and Queens Square.

And recently, we carried out improvements on Lord Street to help tackle anti-social behaviour, by removing bins, benches and trees.

But there’s even more improvements on the way.

The next round of updates and improvements to the town centre will take place near St Giles Church and the neighbouring streets, with a number of works planned.

Some of the upcoming works planned include:

  • New public litter bins throughout the town centre (plus improved pushcarts for our street cleaning team).
  • A proposed new storage area for bins used by residents and businesses on Yorke Street, plus creating a secure area for the collection of bins, and better management of the collection of bins on Temple Row.
  • Rolling out new heritage-style LED lighting on Queens Square, Lambpit Street and Queens Street, plus new LED lights for Temple Row
  • Planting flower beds throughout the town centre.
  • Tree pruning and clearing near St Giles Parish Church, to trees overhanging Temple Row and College Street.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “While we’ve already carried out a number of improvements to the streetscape this year, further planned updates are in hand for areas throughout the town centre. These works are already scheduled as part of planned improvements to the town centre. There are other works which are planned for, and which we would like to carry out, but those are dependent on funding.”

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for Economic Performance and Regeneration, said: “While I’m very pleased with the extent of works which have already taken place in the town centre, I’m glad to see that further works are planned for the improvement of the area, and look forward to see them taking place.”
