During the current cost of living crisis, residents may be worried about heating their homes throughout the colder months.

With funding from the Welsh Government, we have established the “Warm Spaces” initiative. Throughout the Wrexham area, community buildings are getting on board and offering warm spaces to residents.

As well as Wrexham libraries and Wrexham Wellbeing Hub taking part, 19 community based organisations are offering hubs where people can get warm, take part in activities and receive a warm drink or even a hot meal.

Activities and support

The initiative runs from now until mid-March and there is a schedule of activities on offer at the hubs taking part. This includes board games, jigsaws, craft activities or just a place to have a warm drink and meal free of charge.

Another aim is to also tackle community inclusion and loneliness.

Support and advice from agencies such as Citizens Advice and Warm Wales will be available at certain sessions.

The services and activities on offer are open to everyone. Come along to your local community hub or library where a warm welcome will greet you.

Speaking on the initiative, Councillor David A Bithell, Chair of the Cost of Living Working Group, said “It is an understandably difficult time for many residents across the community of Wrexham during the current cost of living crisis. With this in mind, it is important that we let our residents know that we have the Warm Spaces hubs open to them in a bid to help out in some way during the winter months. This is a prime example of how the people of Wrexham come together and support each other during trying times. I want to thank all the teams and community hubs involved in making this happen and I hope many of you can enjoy the varied activities on offer”.

Councillor Beverley Parry-Jones , Lead Member for Tackling Poverty said “The Warm Spaces initiative is a crucial service on many levels. As well as supporting each other through the testing financial crisis, it is also a good opportunity to socialise and come together as a community. With thanks to the Welsh Government funding, we have a strong support network across our community hubs which all are welcome to come and join. I send my thanks to all who have worked incredibly hard to bring this initiative back for what I hope to be another successful campaign”.
