UPDATE: The next Veteran’s Drop-in Session takes place this Saturday, August 26 at The Memorial Hall in Wrexham from 10am until 12 noon.

If you’ve served in the armed forces, please pop in for a chat and a brew!

Veterans in the Wrexham area will soon have a new place to find support, camaraderie and resources tailored to their needs.

On Saturday July 29, a Veterans’ Drop-in Session will be held at The Memorial Hall, Wrexham, starting at 10am until 12 noon; and on the last Saturday of each month thereafter.

This initiative aims to foster a sense of community among military veterans, providing them with a safe space to share experiences, connect with fellow veterans, and access various support services should they need to do so.

The Veterans’ Drop-in Session is organised by Woody’s Lodge and Wrexham Council, with a collaboration of local organisations, including veterans’ associations, support groups, and community partners.

Together, they have recognised the importance of creating a supportive environment where veterans can gather, exchange stories, seek guidance, and access resources to enhance their well-being.

During the drop-in session, veterans will have the opportunity to have a brew, chat and connect with peers who have shared experiences. There will also be representatives from local support organisations to provide details of support services they provide, if needed.

“Recognising the unique challenges faced by veterans, we have come together to establish this drop-in session as a hub of support,” said Graham Jones, a retired veteran and CEO of Woody’s Lodge.

“Our aim is to create a welcoming environment where veterans can find camaraderie, seek assistance, and connect with resources that will contribute to their overall well-being and we would like to thank Wrexham Council for their support in this venture.”

Councillor Beverley Parry-Jones, Wrexham’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Making the transition from active service to civilian life can be extremely challenging, so it’s absolutely vital that veterans get the help and support they need. Wrexham is very proud of it’s links with the Armed Forces, and as a council we’re committed to supporting veterans.

“We’re delighted to be part of this fantastic initiative and would encourage people to spread the word and let local veterans know about the new drop-in sessions. If you have served in the armed forces, please pop in for a chat and a brew.”

The Veterans’ Drop-in Session will take place at The Memorial Hall, conveniently located next to Wrexham Waterworld car park. The event will kick off at 10am and continue until 12 noon. Light refreshments will be provided.

This event is open to all veterans, regardless of service branch, age, or length of service. Family members and friends of veterans who are interested in showing support and learning more about available resources are also welcome to attend.
