Working to be dementia-friendly

Wrexham Council has recently applied to the Alzheimer’s Society to receive the recognition of  ‘working towards being a dementia friendly’ authority.

Achieving this status will demonstrate our commitment to those living with dementia in Wrexham, and show that, as an Authority, people living with dementia feel valued, remain independent within their communities, and are empowered to have a voice, choice and control over their lives by having a workforce who understands their needs.

Receiving this recognition is a crucial element of the council’s priorities and is part of the council plan and will demonstrate our commitment to those living with dementia and their families in Wrexham.

To support the application, free Dementia friends sessions are being provided to all departments in the authority and last only an hour. If you are interested in taking part in a dementia friends session, contact your local dementia champion to arrange a session. A full list of Dementia Champions is here.

There are a number of initiatives taking place to support the application and for more information contact commissioning@wrexham.gov.uk.
