Wrexham is celebrating after achieving Gold in the City category at the 2026 Wales in Bloom awards.
This award recognises the dedication and hard work of the council teams, community organisations and volunteers who have helped make Wrexham a greener, more attractive place to live, work and visit.
Wales in Bloom judges visited Wrexham on 21 July, taking part in a four-and-a-half-hour tour showcasing environmental initiatives, green spaces and community projects across the area.
The visit began at Ty Mawr, where judges were introduced to projects supported through LP4N funding, including Wrexham’s bug hotel, before hearing about the work undertaken throughout the year.
The tour also included visits to Pen-y-cae Orchard, Pentrebychan Nursery and Erlas Walled Garden, before heading into Wrexham city centre to see the floral displays.
Along the way, judges met Wrexham Council’s Arboricultural Officer, trainees and members of Wrexham Litter Pickers, highlighting the range of people and organisations contributing to the area’s environmental improvements.
Wrexham’s success extended beyond the City category, with several local groups and organisations receiving recognition through the It’s Your Neighbourhood awards.
Among those recognised were Pen-y-cae Orchard, Wrexham Litter Pickers, Cefn Mawr Museum, Cefn Mawr Community Council and Woodswork CIC, highlighting the important role local communities play in caring for and improving green spaces across the county borough.
Peter Barton-Price, Chairman of Wales in Bloom said, “Wales in Bloom was delighted to once again award Wrexham in Bloom a Gold Award and the title of City Category Winner 2026.
The award recognises the outstanding partnership between local communities and Wrexham County Borough Council, demonstrating how collaborative working can enhance the environment, promote biodiversity and deliver horticultural excellence across the city.
The diversity of the projects was outstanding, and the voluntary efforts were incredible.”
Wrexham’s Gold award reflects the combined efforts of council staff, local groups and volunteers who work throughout the year to care for green spaces and support environmental improvements across the county borough.
Councillor Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism said, “Achieving Gold in the City category at Wales in Bloom is a fantastic achievement for Wrexham and something we can all be incredibly proud of.
This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our council teams, community groups and volunteers who work throughout the year to improve and maintain our green spaces.
It’s pleasing to see so many local organisations recognised for their efforts too. Their commitment makes a real difference to our communities, and I’d like to thank everyone involved for helping to make Wrexham a greener and more welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.”
