On October 1, 2025, Wrexham joins communities across the UK in celebrating the International Day of Older People, with this year’s theme: “Building Belonging: Celebrating the Power of Our Social Connections.”

The day highlights the vital role older people play in strengthening the social fabric of our communities — as carers, volunteers, workers and connectors.

John Pritchard, lead member for adult social care, said: “This year, we’re focusing on the importance of relationships — from everyday greetings to lifelong bonds — and how they help older people feel at home in their communities.”

Wrexham’s Ageing Well is encouraging local groups, care homes, and residents to mark the day with activities that foster connection, such as tea & talk sessions, storytelling, and community walks.

If you’d like to get involved in Wrexham’s Ageing Well Forum and help shape an age-friendly future, please contact us at commissioning@wrexham.gov.uk.

Everyone is invited to share stories, photos, and messages of belonging using the hashtags #BuildingBelongingWrexham #AgeingWellinWrexham #CentreForAgeingBetter.
