Wrexham Council is pleased to announce the installation of new environmental monitoring equipment across the county borough – providing high quality data, aimed at improving public health and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Specialist devices have been sited in key locations to measure both air quality and environmental noise levels.
These monitors will provide real-time data on pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter, as well as ambient noise levels.
Importantly, we want to reassure residents that the noise monitoring equipment does not record speech, conversations, or any form of personal audio.
It is designed solely to measure general environmental sound levels – such as traffic, construction, and other urban noise – to help us better understand and manage noise pollution in our communities.
Councillor Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Strategic Planning and Public Protection, said: “This initiative reflects our commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more liveable Wrexham.
“By understanding the environmental conditions in our communities, we can take informed action to reduce pollution and noise, and support long-term sustainability.”
The data collected will be used to inform council policies, support planning decisions, and guide future improvements in transport, infrastructure, and green spaces.
Residents may notice small monitoring units being installed on lampposts. These devices are safe, unobtrusive, and designed to operate continuously with minimal disruption.
