We completed the Welsh Quality Homes standard in 2019 which saw our housing tenants receive new kitchens and bathrooms across our 11,200 properties in Wrexham – BUT we didn’t stop there! As part of our empty property strategy we took the opportunity to raise the bar when it comes to housing quality and standards.
We have taken on-board their needs, comparing them with the private rented market, the new advanced materials and working methods in the construction industry. Together with a first class quality standard and delivery teams, we are providing exceptional properties for our tenants.
We have now embarked on a long-term strategy to improve our housing stock, which will see our properties at a level beyond any other local authority.
“High quality decoration throughout”
Typical works to an empty property now include, fully re-plastered walls and ceilings, replacement kitchens, bathrooms, fencing, landscaping and high quality decoration throughout.
The aims of this long term improvement strategy is to provide high quality homes, reducing the need for repairs, and provide a home for our tenants that they can be proud of.
To date we have refurbished over 1000 properties, with amazing feedback from our tenants:
“It is beautiful!”
“I can’t believe the difference compared to my old property!”
“It’s like moving into a show home.”
“You would never think this was a Council property.”
“What our tenants deserve”
Cllr David Griffiths, Lead Member for Housing, said: “This is great news and it’s good to know that we are now exceeding the Welsh Quality Homes Standard which is what our tenants deserve. We will continue this work into 2020 to improve the housing stock to ensure it remains of a high standard.”
