Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration Cllr Nigel Williams said “Our city centre traffic control bollards became operational on Monday.

“Since then we have had two drivers committing moving traffic offences by attempting to access the pedestrianised zone unpermitted. “Both instances resulted in a collision with the bollards and damage to their vehicles.

“There have been attempts at ‘tailgating’ whereby a vehicle that does not have access to high street has followed closely a vehicle that does have access, this has resulted in needless costly damage to the tailgating vehicles.

“The bollards have been inspected to ensure that they are safe and are still operational.

“If you do not have permission to access the city centre after 11.30am by vehicle then the bollards will not allow access.

Appropriate signage and communication around the changes have been issued. “We urge drivers to familiarise themselves with the new system, to be aware of changes and respect the signage.

“A reminder for which was shared by the Council this week Don’t ignore the new one way system – Wrexham Council News”
