Wrexham’s iconic markets are proudly taking part in this year’s Love Your Local Market campaign – the UK’s biggest celebration of local markets – running from Friday 16th May to Saturday 31st May.

The Butchers’ Market, General Market, Monday Market and Tŷ Pawb will all be joining the festivities, helping to shine a spotlight on the unique role markets play in supporting local businesses, nurturing new ideas and bringing communities together.

This year’s campaign theme – ‘Made by Markets’ – celebrates everything that local markets create and support: new businesses, fresh food, community spirit, local culture and sustainable choices. It’s about recognising that what we love most about our towns and cities is often built right here, at our markets.

As part of Wrexham Council’s ongoing commitment to revitalising the city centre and supporting the businesses based there, the Monday Market is currently free for all traders until the end of December 2025. This initiative is aimed at encouraging more footfall in the city centre and giving new and existing traders a valuable platform to grow.

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism, said: “Wrexham’s markets have been the heartbeat of our city for generations. They’re full of local character and provide a vital space for independent businesses to thrive. The Love Your Local Market campaign is a great chance to celebrate our traders and remind people just how much markets contribute to the local economy and community. With the Monday Market free to trade at for the rest of the year, it’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone thinking of trying their hand at market trading.”

Tŷ Pawb, Wrexham’s award-winning cultural hub, is also taking part in the campaign. With its unique mix of arts, food, retail and events, it’s become one of Wrexham’s most popular and diverse community spaces.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Planning and Public Protection, said: “Tŷ Pawb provides a great opportunity for young businesses seeking a cost-effective way to commence a business. With its unique blend of arts, culture, retail and food, Tŷ Pawb attracts a wide-ranging and significant number of visitors. With 20,000 visitors in just three days during this year’s FOCUS Wales Festival, it provides the perfect opportunity for new and aspiring retailers to show their goods.”

For those just starting out or looking to trade on a more casual basis outside of our Monday Market, pop-up trading opportunities are available in the Butchers’ Market, General Market and Tŷ Pawb for just £20 a day. It’s a flexible and affordable way to test the waters, meet customers, and bring your products or services to the heart of the city.

Whether you’re shopping for everyday essentials, discovering something unique, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, Wrexham’s markets offer a vibrant and diverse experience for everyone. From independent retails to local services, fresh food to arts and crafts, there’s never been a better time to support out local traders and explore what Wrexham’s markets have to offer.

Even if you’re just visiting, or thinking about becoming a market trader yourself, make sure to check out the Tŷ Pawb, and Wrexham Markets websites.
