One of our primary schools has had a good bill of health all round in its recent report from education inspectors Estyn.
Ysgol Acrefair has received a rating of “Good” across the board, receiving praise from inspectors in the areas of standards, wellbeing, teaching, care and leadership.
The report says that the school has a “friendly, caring environment”, with good standards of behaviour and self-discipline among pupils.

It also notes that the school plans its curriculum effectively, with teachers helping pupils to develop their creative skills through a “wide range of interesting activities” – including use of the forest school.
Leadership at the school also comes in for praise, noting that “the headteacher provides effective leadership and a clear strategic direction for the school’s work”.
The report adds: “There is a strong culture of continuous improvement and action planning supports improvement well. Staff share leadership responsibilities successfully. The school engages well with parents and has communicated its vision and values effectively.”
Rebecca Turner, Headteacher at Ysgol Acrefair, said: “I’m very pleased with the comments by Estyn’s inspectors in this report.
“As noted within the report, there are always areas of improvement and we will seek to achieve the recommendations outlined by Estyn, but we’re all very pleased with the verdict of the report, and I want to thank all teachers and pupils for their hard work in helping us to achieve these standards.”
Cllr Phil Wynn, Lead Member for Education, said: “The Headteacher and staff at Ysgol Acrefair are to be congratulated for their commitment to delivering a quality educational experience for their pupils, as recognised in Estyn’s recent Inspection report – to achieve a rating of Good across the board is no mean feat.”
