Help us make that final recycling hurdle

We’re nearing our 70 per cent recycling target – and preventing food waste plays a key part in that.

Last year we hit 65 per cent, and we’re very grateful to the residents of Wrexham for their help in getting us to this point.

But we’ve still got work to do before we hit 70 per cent.

Tackling food waste would help us make that final five per cent.

Caddy liners

Earlier this year, we rolled out extra compostable food caddy liners to more than 60,000 homes across the county borough.

The grey kerbside caddies can be used to recycle practically all waste foods, including:

• Fruit and veg – raw and cooked
• Meat and fish – raw and cooked
• Bones and egg shells
• Rice, pasta, cereal and noodles
• Bread, cakes, pastries and biscuits
• Tea bags and coffee grounds
• Cheese, eggs and yogurts
• Beans, nuts, pulses and seeds
• Uneaten food from your plate

“Help us overcome that final hurdle”

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the residents of Wrexham for the work they’ve put in over the past few years in helping us reach our current recycling rate of 65 per cent.

“It will take just a bit more effort for us to reach our goal of 70 per cent, and getting food waste into recycling rather than the black bin will help us overcome that final hurdle.”
