Grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 will be available to eligible businesses in the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors under the £20 million Future Proofing Fund available from Welsh Government.

The Fund will help businesses strengthen their future trading position by increasing profitability through investment in renewable energy technology, improvements to the fabric of their premises, and upgrades to systems or machinery to reduce energy use.

The eligibility checker for the Future Proofing Fund is now live and micro, small and medium sized businesses in Wrexham are encouraged to take a look to see if they are eligible. Applications open in May.

Grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 will be available through the fund

To apply for the Future Proofing Funding, the business must

  • be located in Wales and employ people in Wales;
  • employ between 1 and 249 people;
  • have been trading since before 1 April 2023;
  • operate from a property with a rateable value between £6,001 and £51,000; and
  • either own or are leasing the business premises on a minimum 3-year lease that extends beyond 1 April 2026.

Business Wales has agreed to host a number of webinars starting next week to discuss the fund criteria and the application process. Attendance at the webinars will need to be booked via this link.

Dates available are 25 and 30 April and 2 May.

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said, “This is an opportunity for many local businesses to improve their premises, systems or machinery which will in return reduce their energy use.

I encourage anyone interested to take a look to see if they are eligible in readiness for the applications opening in May.”
