People in Wrexham are being urged to attend the screening of a UK public awareness film about the climate and nature crisis facing the UK.
The People’s Emergency Briefing was released in April this year and is being screened in communities, workplaces, councils, cinemas and other venues across the country.
The film is based on a major briefing held in Westminster, where leading UK experts presented evidence to more than 1,200 politicians, business leaders and other influential figures.
Presented by Chris Packham, it explores a range of issues including:
- Climate change and extreme weather.
- Nature loss and biodiversity decline.
- Food security.
- Public health.
- Infrastructure resilience.
- The economy.
- National security.
- Potential solutions and actions that communities, organisations and governments can take.
There will be a public screening on Monday, October 5 between 6pm and 8pm at Ty Pawb in Wrexham city centre. Everyone is welcome.
Everyone should watch this film
Wrexham councillors and senior managers recently watched the film to learn more about the challenges facing the UK, and to look at how the council can respond at a local level.
Deputy Leader Councillor David A Bithell, who is leading the council’s response to climate change, said: “The world is facing a huge climate and nature crisis, and Wrexham – just like every other community – will feel the impact.
“It’s easy to just turn away from the problem because it feels too big to tackle on a local level, but the truth is we can all play our part – it’s not all down to world leaders and big industry.
“This isn’t a tomorrow problem…it’s a today problem, and it’s something that will affect every single one of us and our children, so please come and see the film if you can.
“It’s not depressing or scary – it’s really interesting, educational and inspiring, and it might be one of the most important things you ever watch.
“The council wants residents to be part of this conversation, because the issues explored in the film have the potential to affect everyone – from health and household costs to food, flooding, local services and the places we live.
“The better informed we are, the better placed we are to prepare, respond and shape a more resilient future for Wrexham.”
