This year marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day and you are invited to be part of the commemoration in Wrexham city centre.

The day will begin with a service at St. Giles Parish Church at 12.30pm, followed by a parade, led by RWF Volunteer Corps of Drums, when the Standards will be paraded by the military associations in Wrexham.

The parade, on May 8, will leave St. Giles at 1.15pm and march along Hope Street, on to Queen’s Street, passing Queen’s Square, on to Lambpit Street, then to Chester Street. Those marching will salute the dais at Crown Buildings before turning right onto Bodhyfryd where the parade will halt. There will then be a wreath laying ceremony accompanied by the Salvation Army band from Wrexham. After the wreath laying the parade will retire to the War Memorial Club.

Cllr Parry-Jones, armed forces champion, said: “I would encourage everyone to make a note of this date. Come out, line the streets of Wrexham for the parade and make this a day of both reflection and celebration. Wrexham has long-standing connections with the armed forces and this is a wonderful opportunity to pay thanks to a heroic generation.”
