Repair Café Wales are looking for support for a campaign encouraging people to repair rather than replace their items, promoting sustainability and reducing waste.

This February, Wrexham residents are invited to pledge to repair at least one broken item- saving money, reducing waste, and supporting sustainability locally.

Pledges could include sewing on a button, patching clothes, or restoring a beloved item. If you don’t feel like your repair skills are up to it, not to worry!

Residents are encouraged to gather any items that need repairing in February ready for the next repair café in Wrexham which takes place next month.

Repair Café Wrecsam are hosting their next event on Saturday, March 8, 11am-1pm at CAIA Park Centre, Prince Charles Road, LL13 8TH.

Bring along your broken or damaged item and the volunteer repairers will try to fix it, for free. You can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and chat to your fellow neighbours while you wait.

You can also check dates of future events on the Repair Cafe Wales website, or the Repair Cafe Wrecsam Facebook page which you can also follow for updates.

The repairs completed Repair Café Wrecsam will contribute to Repair Cafe Wales’ aim to fix 1,000 items in Wales in February; a carbon reduction saving equivalent to driving a car over 360,000 miles.

Since Repair Cafe Wales launched, the initiative has helped local communities save an impressive £1 million and has fixed over 21,000 items.

The “Fix It Feb” campaign aims to further that impact by empowering even more people to fix items, reducing the need for new goods.

“Repairing things can be simple, accessible, and rewarding” says Phoebe, Director of Repair Cafe Wales. “Not only does it save money and reduce waste, but it’s a great way for the local community to get together to share skills and ideas. With “Fix It Feb,” we’re showing Wales how small actions can make a big difference for the environment and our communities.”

Cllr David A Bithell, Deputy Leader and Climate Champion, said: “Repair cafes do brilliant work allowing people to keep their items for longer, helping to conserve resources, reducing carbon footprints and saving people money. We encourage our residents to support the ‘Fix it Feb’ campaign.”

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for Environment, said: “Using a repair cafe rather than buying replacement items helps the environment massively. Whether it’s repairing a household appliance, mending a cherished sweater, or restoring a favourite toy, it all makes a difference.”

Join the Movement! Pledge your support for “Fix It Feb” by visiting Repair Cafe Wales’ website. Make your pledge today and be part of the movement for a more sustainable, waste-free Wales.
