Wrexham Council launches a consultation focussing on establishing a new provision for pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), so make sure you have a look at the proposal and have your say.

This consultation asks you to give your thoughts on the new provision, which will be based in The Opportunities Centre in Plas Madoc and called COPA.

Over recent years, the demand for specialist school places for pupils with additional learning needs (ALN) has risen in Wrexham. A significant number of children who present as neuro-diverse, with autism as their primary area for support require a more specialist setting for their learning and well-being needs to be met. By bringing this proposal forward, the council intends to address the rising demand for special school places.

Cllr Phil Wynn, lead member for education, said: “The need for suitable education places for those pupils with ALN is increasing and this proposal will in part address that changing pattern of need and demand in special education. We want to hear the views of those affected by this proposal so that any changes are delivered in a way that ensures children and young people in Wrexham are able to achieve the best they can.”

Cllr Paul Blackwell, local member for Acrefair North, said: “I would encourage all those who will be affected to take part in the consultation and take advantage of the consultation meetings taking place in Plas Madoc Leisure Centre and The Kettle Club in early April. These will be an important opportunity to ask questions before sending in your thoughts.”

Claire Pugh, play and community development manager from AVOW, said: “We encourage everyone from the local community to join us in Kettle Club on April 2 and 3 to take part in the consultation. The consultation sessions will provide the opportunity to learn more about the proposed development, to ask any questions and to share your views.”

The consultation and all of the relevant documents are available on Your Voice. You have until May 11, 2025 to send us your thoughts.
