Continued investment in local public transport has now supported more than 220,000 passenger journeys across Wrexham, as use of a number of council-funded bus services continues to grow.
Since 2023, Wrexham Council has approved £650,000 of funding to support additional local bus services, helping to provide new routes, extend evening services and additional weekend journeys.
The latest figures, recorded at the end of August 2026, show that the services supported through this investment have now carried 220,575 passenger journeys.
Passenger numbers have increased significantly, rising from 57,149 journeys in 2024/25 to 91,797 in 2025/25 – an increase of around 61%.
Use has continued during the current year, with a further 56,754 journeys recorded between April and the end of August 2026.
Growth across local services
The overall increase is being reflected across a range of services supported by the council, including evening, weekend and newly introduced routes.
The evening service between Wrexham and Minera has seen particularly strong growth, while Sunday and Bank Holiday services serving areas including Borras, Barkers Lane, Penycae and Caia Park continue to provide important links for communities outside normal weekday operating hours.
Newer services are also attracting passengers. The daytime Wrexham to Johnstown service, along with the hourly service serving Moss and Lodge, have both seen continued use since they were introduced.
The figures show that demand is not limited to one particular type of journey, with passengers making use of services throughout the day as well as during evenings and weekends.
Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment said, “We have continued to invest in local bus services because we know how important good public transport links are for communities across Wrexham.
It’s really encouraging to see passenger numbers continuing to grow and more than 220,000 journeys now supported through this investment.
These services include evening, Sunday and Bank Holiday journeys, as well as new and improved links for communities across the county borough.
There is always more we can do, and we will continue working with operators and our partners to improve the local bus network and make public transport a practical option for ore people.”
Building on the investment
With passenger numbers continuing to grow, Wrexham Council will continue working with operators and partners to build on the investment already made and look at further opportunities to improve bus services and passenger facilities across Wrexham.
