The service can’t do it alone, they rely on the thousands of generous blood donors who selflessly give blood to help someone have the chance of a better quality of life.

This Christmas, could you spare the time to donate and give someone the best gift they could receive this year?

Here for everyone

Across Wales and internationally, the Welsh Blood Service play a vital role in giving a lifeline to thousands of patients. From saving someone’s life, to helping another live theirs, the service are the primary blood suppliers to the NHS.

They work tirelessly to give donors and patients safe, high-quality, modern and efficient laboratory, diagnostic and transplant services. They also meet the highest standards of regulators and auditors to provide a safe supply chain.

Their work provides lower costs to hospitals improved integration and planning of an end-to-end supply chain.

Can you help?

Here in Wales, hospitals require 350 donations per day to care for patients in need. This can’t be achieved without the countless donors that support the Welsh Blood Service.

They need blood donors from all backgrounds to keep up with the daily demand and to make sure they have enough supplies for hospitals.

A single blood donation can save up to three patients as it can be split into various components. This in turn can be used in many ways to help patients recover.

Most adults are welcomed and encouraged to give blood. Anyone who fits the criteria needed can donate. If you are:

  • Between the age of 17 and 66 (for your first donation)
  • Weigh over 7 stone 12 pounds (50kg)
  • Healthy and not subject to medical exclusions

Giving blood is one of the most selfless gifts you can give someone, especially during the season of good will. In doing so, you are potentially saving lives or helping someone recover and lead a normal life.

If this sounds like something you’d like to support, head over to the Welsh Blood Service website. Here, you can check your eligibility to donate and book your donation appointment. Alternatively, you can give them a call on 0800 252 266.
